Client: Federal Corrections Institution

Location: Terminal Island

Dates coverage is needed: asap – Sept 2023

Schedule/Shifts Times: Monday – Friday, between the hours of 6a – 3:30p (30 min unpaid lunch) (8 hour shift, no overtime, if they Dentist starts at 6a then they would finish at 2:30, anticipation is that most shifts will start at 7a)

Patient Volume: 8 patients per day average

Patient Ages: Adults Only

Types of Cases: general dentistry, complex procedures referred out

Support Staff: n/a

Type of Charting: n/a

Credentialing Timeframe: 6-8 weeks on average


Completing oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity, diagnosing and developing treatment plans for inmates requiring complex dental care.

Administrative duties include complete supportive paperwork to ensure compliance with BOP Health Services Manual policies.

Treat simple and complex cavities including pin retained amalgams and composite restorations, posts and cores. (Inlays and crowns require Central Office approval prior to applying).

Aid in ordering dental supplies.

Provide root canal therapy on anterior and posterior teeth

Perform simple and complex extractions, including surgical removal of tori and foreign bodies from dental tissue.

Institutes local and systematic therapy for chronic and acute oral infections.

Perform root planning, gingival curettage and mucogingival surgery.

Provide dental prosthesis/acrylic partial dentures, cast partial dentures, and full dentures.

Manage inmate patient requiring special consideration during dental treatment.

This includes inmates with asthma, emphysema, allergies, diabetes, hypertension, heart murmurs, pre and post (90-days) open heart surgery, and behavioral inmates undergoing psychiatric care



BLS (through American Heart), DEA (fee paid, schedules 2-5)

Credentialing Timeframe: 6-8 weeks on average

Additional Info: Must possess a *** CA State License ***

At least 2 years of experience as Dentist

Experience at a correctional facility preferred, but not required
