Unit Specifics: Position Summary The Business Office Director is responsible for the daily function and activities of the Business Office and Admissions department and ensuring departmental goals and objectives support the overall mission/vision of Stephens Memorial Hospital. Responsibilities include but are not limited to oversight of admissions and registration, patient billing and collection, third-party payer relations, and preparation of insurance claims and contracts. Essential Job Responsibilities – Monitor daily billing and collections of Stephens Memorial Hospital to ensure efficiency in the billing and collection process, with goal of maximizing cash flow. – Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Athena computer system and the reports maintained on the systems that will facilitate more efficient billing and collection of both clinics. – Assists the CEO with preparation of reports needed for annual Audits. – Generate reports as needed for Administration to evaluate the operations of SMH. – Answers all patient and insurance inquiries regarding assigned accounts. – Design, implement and enforce policies and procedures to ensure efficiency of department functions Streamline effective billing processes across multiple markets. – Answers patient billing questions and make necessary payment arrangements/agreements with patients. Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness and obtain any missing information. – Contact insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary. – Ensures procedures are followed to achieve an accurate and timely closing at month end. – Ensures all required records are maintained and submitted, as appropriate, in an accurate and timely manner and in compliance with federal and state regulations. – Coordinates account activities for placement of patient balances with early out and bad debt agencies to ensure compliance for Medicare bad debt cost reporting. – Assist in the development of daily cash reconciliation and deposit processes and procedures, as well as daily monitoring and reporting. – Monitor productivity and performance goals for the – – – Business Office team with individual training/coaching as required. – Provides leadership for direct reports including but not limited to delegation of duties, problem solving, workload management, performance management, training, time and attendance. – Provide mentoring, delegation, coaching and conflict management in a timely/effective manner – Ensures all office activities comply with hospital standards and government regulations. Position Requirements – College degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Management preferred – Previous experience in Healthcare Business office operations: insurance billing, insurance and self pay collections, cash management. – Minimum of 2 years management experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – Knowledge of CPT and ICD coding systems. – Knowledge of insurance guidelines especially Medicare and Medicaid. – Strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the department.

Qualifications :

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

experience with increasing level of administrative responsibility and authority

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree preferred
