We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Technologist to work in a hospital setting in McAlester, OK.


  • 8 hour day shifts

Length of contract:

  • 1 year

COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION, depending on experience

  • $30-$33/hour


  • Must have completed a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, biology, or chemistry is preferred
  • Must have at least one year of clinical laboratory experience
  • Must possess MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) registration
  • Must have ability to use independent judgement to organize and test blood, body fluid and tissue specimens and to report results to the physician accurately and efficiently
  • Must have ability to operate, troubleshoot, maintain and calibrate medical laboratory analyzers and equipment
  • Must possess ability to collect venous, arterial, and capillary blood samples from all ages of patients


  • Bachelor’s degree of medical technology, biology, or chemistry
  • Must possess ASCP certification

  • Must have ASCP certification

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Evaluates specimens for acceptability for proper testing
  • Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens
  • Organizes workload for maximum efficiency in order to complete tests being performed
  • Accurately performs tests as requested on specimens received
  • Verifies accuracy of results before reporting results
  • Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate; performs calibration of equipment as required
  • Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimen’s when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor if unable to solve the problem
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals
  • Performs phlebotomy (venipunctures, fingersticks, bleeding times) as appropriate for the patient requiring this procedure
  • When requested, performs duties required for relief in higher classification in supervisor’s absence
  • Stroke Certification: Completes all necessary education and competencies to care for stroke patients in their unit and/or be a member of the MRHC Stroke Team. Continuing Stroke education hours as defined by core Stroke Team
